SANPARKS: SKUKUZA RONDAVELS
The project entails the upgrade of twenty-eight rondavels in the Skukuza Rest camp in the Kruger National Park, including all fittings and furnishings, and the surrounding landscape.
Skukuza is the Kruger National Park’s largest rest camp and administrative headquarters. It is situated on the southern banks of the Sabie
River. The Client’s vision was to provide contemporary guest accommodation offering modern comforts in a competitive tourism market, while preserving the character and historic significance of the site.
The design principles and details were to be robust enough to apply to a variety of existing rondavel layout types, and establish a new aesthetic and specification standard to guide future renovations. This required a multidisciplinary approach of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Interior Design.
The project boasts with two Steel Award commendations:
Innovation & Sustainability Catergory 2024
Metal Cladding Category 2024
